An Alternative to Traditional Litigation

Arbitration or mediation may offer efficient and cost-effective alternatives to lengthy and expensive court battles. At Anderson & van Tol PLLC, we understand the importance of resolving conflicts in an economical manner that minimizes disruption. Our firm is dedicated to providing sophisticated clients with smart and effective legal solutions.

Embracing Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR)

Mediation and arbitration, two types of Alternative Dispute Resolution(ADR), are methods of resolving disputes outside of the traditional courtroom setting. Mediation is a collaborative process in which a neutral third-party facilitates communications between the parties to help the parties explore and evaluate opportunities for settlement. The process is geared toward helping the parties reach a settlement that provides certainty of outcome and avoids the expense, risk, and burdens of litigation.

Arbitration is a process by which a third-party arbitrator or panel of arbitrators resolves disputes between the parties by issuing a binding decision on each claim. Often arbitration can conclude more quickly than litigation and is particularly suited for complex matters or matters in which it is helpful for the decisionmaker to have experience or expertise in a particular industry or field.

At Anderson & van Tol, we represent clients in mediations and arbitrations and also serve as mediators to help parties identify and evaluate solutions to their disputes. Adrienne Anderson has mediated hundreds of business, construction, employment, and other types of disputes to successful resolution, and serves in the federal court’s mediation program.

Adrienne Anderson is an experienced arbitrator frequently selected by attorneys to decide disputes in arbitration. For more than sixteen years she has served as an arbitrator for American Arbitration Association, in the federal court’s arbitration program, and in private arbitrations involving construction law, commercial, and employment disputes.
